Sorry guys! But towards the end of the build, I totally got all excited with getting her finished I really didn't take much or any pictures at all.<br />
<br />
I did manage to finish the Hawkster up and took her on several rides. I did have some mechanical issues and they are all taken care of.<br />
<br />
Thanks for following me on my rebuild transformation of my lovely Hawkster... I will continue to post pictures and other how-to.<br />

It's tough to fabricate something with just your basic around the house type of tools. It can be done, but normally they turn out looking ugly. Now having a CNC (computer numerical controller) machine would be a nice addition to my set of tools. <br />
<br />
So I bought some Honda F4i rearsets online which costed me $50 for everything. That includes rear master cylinder. It was a steal of a buy and I thought I could make a plate to fit it on the Hawk. But I ran into some issues. First, the linkage bracket for the left foot controller was in the back and was hitting the swingarm. Since I was going to have GP shifting style, cutting it off wouldn't be a problem. But even after cutting off the bracket, I was running into clearance problems with the rear part of the controller still hitting the swingarm. I ended up grinding about 1/4" off the rear. Over all it end up working out nicely.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is what I came up with.You can see in the picture where the controller was hitting the swingarm. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
No issues on the right foot controller. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Next on the list of thing to do... was routing the rear brake line. I bought the parts from Surplus Depot that sold Earl's Performance brake lines. I found this place by accident while looking for the metal shop to make my rearset adapters. I was able to use my existing hardware that I already had so I saved myself some money. I bought 40" of braided steel line and new brass compression fittings. It is really easy to do.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
First, drill a hole as big as the brake line. Since I already did the mod before, I didn't have to drill anything.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKS7_640zlVVWTV52VF2k3V7MMyQ85fKtPfDfcIfXOW6E8Bpa306Iem0Q_y9aE-lXGYenGhwBIv3ROHSZX3JZRlopMNbtQ0rf94dWbFB-Y1SBXKeNwr2ZkK0440Bt-sc-vcxZis2OLZF5u/s1600/2012-12-07-11-28-02_photo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKS7_640zlVVWTV52VF2k3V7MMyQ85fKtPfDfcIfXOW6E8Bpa306Iem0Q_y9aE-lXGYenGhwBIv3ROHSZX3JZRlopMNbtQ0rf94dWbFB-Y1SBXKeNwr2ZkK0440Bt-sc-vcxZis2OLZF5u/s1600/2012-12-07-11-28-02_photo.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Place the braking in the hole and push it through til you grab it in the front of the swingarm. There is a access hole with a rubber cover. Measure it up to the caliper.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It should look something like this. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Put the banjo on top... and screw it on until it is fully secure. If you have a non-adjustable banjo make sure you have it at the right degree of angle before tightening it down. But I have an adjustable one... so I'm all good.</div>

What a day... a good friend of mines (Edson) came over to weld my brackets for the Monster seat conversion. I have to say... he made it look easy. I really need to get one of them Lincoln WeldPak Welders. It's small and packs a punch! Basically, welding is a controlled electrical zap that melts down a wire with flux in the middle... hence creating a strong bond between to like metals. <br />

<br />
After I showed and explained to him what I was trying to do, he went right at it. He asked me if I wanted to try, but I really didn't want to screw things up. So he did all the work. Next time I'll have a go at it. I still have to make the seat tray for the battery and the mess of wires.<br />

At first, I wanted that Flat Black dragster hotrod look. But after staring at it and looking at other pictures of an all black bike, it definitely need just a little more color. I decided to add more RED. Reason being... Honda is known to be big RED when it comes to the motorcycle industry and I wanted to stick to that theme... What I came up with is a two tone paint job on the tank. High gloss red on top and Flat Back on the bottom... as of right now its a work in progess. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
All sanded and ready to paint, but first...</div>

I've got lots finished but I totally forgot to take picture of everything. When you in the zone, you simple forget about the time and everything else around you.<br />
<br />
If you really want to stand out from the rest, its the details that set you apart. Too bad I forgot to take pictures of all the details... LOL!<br />
<br />
But what I did take pictures of is the mock up of how the bike looks... The tank still needs to get painted and the subbie need to get built. Thanks to Andrew who provided me with lots of pictures with details on How-to's, I'm ready to tackle my next challenge... MONSTER SEAT!<br />

I had a chance to spend time with my kids during Thanksgiving week which definitely take precedence over the Hawk. I don't get much time with them, but we I do! We always have a blast! From bowling to ice skating... to playing with XBox to remote control cars. Enough said, I just can't wait 'til I graduate again this month on the 21st. Then, hopefully I have land a job in Las Vegas to be with my kids once again.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
I also decided to fabricate a bracket to hold my Mikuni fuel pump. I
made a really simple design... 6 screws, 4 bolts, spacer with an
attached washer and a bar of aluminium. </div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the spacer with an attached washer. It was a part for my stock rear seat. But since I'm doing a Monster seat conversion, I won't be needing it for the seat. </div>

<br />
Back when I lived in Hawaii, A good friend of mine sold me his 1994 CBR600 F2 race bike for a cool $600. It never saw the road just the track. Everything geared for racing. I rode it on the race track and had some fun. A couple years later, I moved to California and it ended up sitting in my garage collecting dust. It wasn't street legal and too much work to get it there. So slowly, I ended up selling parts off the bike to fund another project which was my BMW 740iL. Unfortunately, short after everything was upgraded, it got totalled. (That's another long story)<br />
<br />
Today, I still have parts of the bike I didn't sell and one part that I still have is a rear Fox Shock Twin-Clicker. It is a bit small for my bike, so I need to get some minor adjustments which I'm not qualified to do. I ask the guys on the <a href="http://hawkgtforum.com/">HawkGT Forum</a> if they can recommend a company to do the conversion. I got several responses I didn't want to hear, except for one. A member sent me a private message to see if I wanted to trade for his CBR900 Fox Shock. It was the perfect size to do the conversion. I know because many other guys on the forum had already done it with this model shock and you better believe I didn't hesitate to say, "YES".<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of the exact shock because it went straight to his shock guy (whoever that may be), but it looks identical to the one I have. Only difference is this one is 12mm shorter than the other. It may not seem much, but its enough to throw the suspension off a bit.<br />
<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
It's going to take a couple of weeks for it to be completed... In the meantime, I'll just have to work on something else. Maybe paint the stator and clutch cover. Which reminds me... I have to order more parts for JD. The master Hawk mechanic on the forum. Also owns <a href="http://hordpower.com/" target="_blank">Hord Power</a> out in Ohio.My Hawksterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13154893879609046543noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4903050781974187123.post-74122215141241535752012-10-29T22:38:00.002-07:002012-10-29T22:38:30.795-07:00Getting my grind on...Ah... its that time... time to prep the subframe aka "subbie". I thought long and hard about doing this modification. I was torn from keeping my subbie stock or grinding it up for the monster seat mod. It didn't take me long to say... "I'm going to do it! and if I mess things up, I'll by another one off ebay." I just love the look of the monster seat. It really updates the look of the Hawkster. A few HawkGTforum.com members Hawk's that influenced me in making my decision.<br />

I've had lots of time on my hands. A project that was almost forgotten is now back on track. Until the day another life changing event alters my attention to something else. But since that hasn't happen yet... it's all about the Hawkster.<br />
<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The last few days... I was able to start the assembly. It feels so good to see your hard work take shape. First on the list was putting the valve covers back on. I pulled out the polisher and polished nuts and bolts. (Note: the Stator and Clutch cover will be painted Low Black after I get the bike engine started and running. Then, I'll be able to change the gaskets, clutch and springs.) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next, I decided to get the frame on... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Took some skill of not scratching the delicate surface. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Another angle... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My first thought was... "WOW" </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I couldn't stop there... I had more parts that were screaming to be installed. Plus, I was so eager to get to a rolling chassis. Now this next part kick my ass for a bit... but was able to get it on after yelling and screaming at it for 30 minutes. LOL!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Today, I was able to work on the carburettor (aka carbs for short) and starter. The greatest influence came from the <a href="http://www.hawkgtforum.com/" target="_blank">Hawk GT Forum</a> by "grinDAILY". He calls his project "The Phoenix - Rising From the Ashes". After reading his build post (btw his bike is not yet complete), I found inspiration in doing the same to mines but on a low ass budget. LOL! Also without the Bling Bling... Overall, you can see where I get my inspiration from.</div>

</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
On June 9th... I decided to get rid of more of the BLING BLING that I created a long time ago. No more polishing, too much work. I'd rather just wipe it down and go!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I didn't want to pay for the tire removal... was going to cost me $20 per rim.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Are you kidding me. So I just taped it up and BAM!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I've been very busy with school, and I can finally say I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Networks.<br />
<br />

<br />
Since then, I have plenty of time to play around with my hawster while looking for a job. Btw... if anyone knows of some in San Diego that can help me out with a job I'd really appreciate it. Now back to the program...<br />
<br />
Where do I begin... back on June 7th, I changed my fork oil. I did a mixture of 10w and 15w. I made my own little floating device that tells me when to stop pouring. It worked out great! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

Like I've mentioned before, I'm on a budget. During the time I was dismantling my Hawkster, there were several keys parts that needed special attention. What I mean is... they had some surface rust that needed to be removed. So after countless hours on the internet trying to find the perfect product that will help save me on some Benjamin's. This is what I found...</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiqQfkf6aPZsgdsqHYAsBgrYyDX95KIP9a9gPBpRBBMbX0kPb9GbrB6hAvmcZXWvrIV9z8GTBmO1KVLwhxN4YTNjbF1BmUcvam3LjZSh8-vVy_tXm7_ndiHq9qhGyGLOHijuUpuxoncUpN/s1600/2012-05-18_11-42-42_99.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiqQfkf6aPZsgdsqHYAsBgrYyDX95KIP9a9gPBpRBBMbX0kPb9GbrB6hAvmcZXWvrIV9z8GTBmO1KVLwhxN4YTNjbF1BmUcvam3LjZSh8-vVy_tXm7_ndiHq9qhGyGLOHijuUpuxoncUpN/s320/2012-05-18_11-42-42_99.jpg" width="211" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You can find this product for around $26 - $30 per gallon. They have smaller sizes as well.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiq09pm35t55nQJYYRh17Jal_9bhEBS6ZeAOd6qpxso94DhRjIzY5OU2ZGqE9Lgs-AGZaufHYm26UvAVQXKrKkT4IifiB9EQ9_jNCIey9Hip9VPxMKpTJPPgXbbRLXJQ-y-xwxdhpiRYUwU/s1600/2012-05-18_11-46-23_473.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiq09pm35t55nQJYYRh17Jal_9bhEBS6ZeAOd6qpxso94DhRjIzY5OU2ZGqE9Lgs-AGZaufHYm26UvAVQXKrKkT4IifiB9EQ9_jNCIey9Hip9VPxMKpTJPPgXbbRLXJQ-y-xwxdhpiRYUwU/s320/2012-05-18_11-46-23_473.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The best part of this product is, its not some type of acid which can burn your skin. Instead, its non-corrosive and reusable... read label for more details. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The first part that I experimented this product on was my chain. Replacing a chain can cost you more than $80. My chain is a DID 520 Racing chain, which normally cost between $110-130. This will surely save my empty pockets from going any deeper. </div>

Overall, I've used this product on bolts, pipes and anything that has rust on it. I'm pretty happy with the results. So far the money I invested in Evapo-Rust has already saved me a bundle on my Hawkster project. </div>My Hawksterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13154893879609046543noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4903050781974187123.post-37179331681868442312012-05-31T18:30:00.003-07:002012-05-31T21:24:14.440-07:00Powerplant facelift...<div style="text-align: justify;">
With the frame nicely painted, I couldn't see myself putting back my oxidized weathered out looking engine back in my sick ass (meaning- awesome) frame that I just painted. So I decided to give it a facelift... that's right... FACELIFT! I'm once again going ghetto painting. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I started off by taking all the parts of the engine that I didn't wanted to get painted. But low and behold... some badness surfaced and I had to deal with it first. </div>

<i><b>This is not puddling you'd like to dip your finger in and have a taste... This gunk was sitting in my engine for the past 5 years... Not Good at All, if you ask me.</b></i></div>

<i><b>Can it be possible... its in my water pump too. </b></i><br />
<br />
<i><b>Also, as you can see the engine is very filthy... so a needed blasting was the only way to go before painting. </b></i><br />

Conclusion... call up a friend (Edson M), who is one bad ass mechanic, told me what to do... did it and all is well... hopefully! I can only pray that it starts with no problems once I have everything re-assembled. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To properly paint the engine, I have to invest in some new toy... I headed to a local store called Harbor Freight and purchased a Blaster Gun and some walnut media. I never used one before, and I must say... I love it! Blasted all the flaking paint off the engine...</div>

School got the best of me once again... Usually Coleman University does not have a spring break. But lucky me, every four years they have all the student take a week break during the spring so they can reset their academic calendar. Otherwise, session during December will run into Christmas and New Years... I don't think many of the students will be happy if that occurred. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So from May 17th thru the 24th I was able to work on the Hawkster... along with my beautiful assistant (who is also my girlfriend) who has given me support on my bird project. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Its all about getting ghetto! </b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Since, I'm a full-time college student, staying within my budget is a definite priority. I would have loved to powder coat all the parts, but for me to stay on budget, I did the ultimate ghetto style painting. My karate kid technique helped me transform this blinged out frame (which I got tired of polishing over and over again) to a cool ass Vader looking beauty... welcome to the darkside! </div>
<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Last year in December, I pulled out my beloved Hawkster from the depths of the forbidden backyard blues. It has been sitting there well over two and a half years. After minutes of starring at it in its decrepit form, I decided to revive her with some love. This will take me on a journey, which I'm hoping it will not last as long as it was sitting. Follow me on my little venture of restoring my Hawkster to a new glory I can enjoy. I'll be posting pictures of my progress to show everyone the slow transformation taking place. And I mean slow... since the only time I have available is when I'm not busy with school.</div>

<br />
This sporty little naked bike called the <b>Hawk GT NT650</b> was totally ahead of its time. It was one of the first modern naked bikes and is often described as a cult bike. Designed by Toshiaki Kishi, it was designated as model RC31. The bike was given a "Pro-Arm" suspension after the RC30 VFR750R. Many of you may compare this bike with the well-known Ducati. Ducati first introduced its first naked bike in 1993 called the Monster, which is still around today. In 1994, they released the Ducati 916. Not only did it have a single sided swingarm it also possessed a V-Twin engine. As you can see, this little bike paved the way! <br />
